Museum Project

The BAGI club maintains a small hot air ballooning exhibit inside of the Chanute Air Museum located in Rantoul, Illinois. A couple balloon baskets, burners, and small items are on display.

A couple of University of Illinois students painted a mural on a wall depicting a balloon inflation, and we have positioned an actual balloon basket and rigging to appear as if it is actually inflating. The balloons shown in the mural were all operated by original members of the BAGI club.

The Chanute Air Museum collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets aviation and aerospace artifacts that relate to the life and accomplishments of Octave Chanute, Chanute Field/Chanute Air Force Base and its technical training programs, the history of military aviation and Illinois aviation.
